Abteilung 502 Oil Paint – Burnt Umber / Brown Wash (AKABT006)

Burnt Umber earns a permanent spot on the palette rather than a single-use slot. It’s a neutral, dark brown that works alone as a wash or as the backbone of a hundred mixes deepening sand and light-brown volumes, and warming yellow or tan detail without ever tipping into grey or green. If you only bought a handful of Abteilung 502 oils, this is one of them.

Best for

• Deepening sand and light-brown volumes
• Warming yellow or tan detail that’s reading too flat
• General-purpose brown washes and shading mixes

The workhorse brown that turns up in nearly every scheme you paint.
